Compare scenarios
Volume is not assumed to stay the same. Enter an expected volume change, or tick "assume volume unchanged".
Assumption: variable cost per unit and fixed costs stay unchanged when the price changes. Costs linked to price — such as percentage commissions, card or marketplace fees — would also change; adjust variable cost per unit to reflect them.
Formulas & assumptions
- Revenue = Price × Units
- Contribution per unit = Price − Variable cost per unit
- Contribution margin % = Contribution per unit ÷ Price
- Operating profit = Contribution per unit × Units − Fixed costs
- Break-even volume = Fixed costs ÷ Contribution per unit (rounded up)
- Units to keep profit = (Baseline profit + Fixed costs) ÷ New contribution per unit
- Assumes variable cost per unit and fixed costs stay the same in each scenario. Volume changes are your estimate, not a prediction.
What to check next
- Verify the real variable cost per unit, including refunds, commissions and payment fees.
- Check past price changes or promotions for evidence of how volume actually reacted.
- Test the scenario on a subset of products or customers before applying it everywhere.
